TEAM OF RICKY BARNES AND STERLING SHARPE SURVIVE PLAYOFF TO CAPTURE 2007 HOOTIE
Anonymous writes 13th Annual Monday After the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament Attracts Second Consecutive Sell-Out at The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf
April 9, 2007, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – PGA professional Ricky Barnes and Green Bay Packer wide receiver Sterling Sharpe survived a one-hole chip off to lead their six-person team to the 2007 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament title. Barnes and Sharpe’s team defeated LPGA professional Erica Blasberg and Hootie & the Blowfish band member Dean Felber in a chip off on the 3rd hole green after both teams finished 17-under-par after 18 holes.
For the second consecutive year, an estimated 6,000 golf fans packed The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf to see their favorite celebrities, athletes and musicians compete in the 13th annual Monday After the Masters Tournament in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. including R&B singer Javier; pop rock performer Edwin McCain, Alter Bridge drummer Scott Phillips, Collective Soul lead singer Ed Roland, No Doubt drummer Adrian Young and Union Station guitarist Dan Tyminski; country singers Steve Azar and Johnny Lee. Other celebrities who participated in the 2007 Tournament include golf fitness expert Katherine Roberts, ESPN host Stuart Scott, Gary Valentine of “King of Queens” and “Andromeda”, Fred Griffith of “Gods and Generals”, Lucas Black of “Friday Night Lights” and “Jarhead” and TV personality Mitch Laurance.
From the sports world, USC head football coach Steve Spurrier, NFL Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen, former NFL stars Dwight Clark, Jason Sehorn, Jim McMahon, Sterling Sharpe George Rogers and NFL analyst Paul McGuire competed in the charity golf tournament. Eric Karros, the 1992 National League Rookie of the Year, represented Major League Baseball.
The professional golf field was once again loaded with talent including John Daly, Woody Austin, Ricky Barnes, Lee Elder, Robert Gamez, Billy Kratzert, Mark Lye, Troy Matteson, Jim McGovern and LPGA golfer Erica Blasberg. Many golfers with South Carolina connections such as Kyle Thompson and D.J. Trahan who participated as well in 2007.
“We had a wonderful turnout today here at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf,” said Darius Rucker, lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish. “I can’t believe that our team didn’t win but I guess we can’t win every year. It was cool to see all of our fans come again and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.”
The 2007 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off Sunday night with a Live Auction and Pairings Party at the House of Blues. Sunday's Live Auction raised money for the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational needs of children in South Carolina. The total amount raised will be announced at a later date.
One of the most popular items up for bid at Sunday night’s Auction was the Orange County Chopper, decorated in red, white and blue as a tribute to the United States. Donated by the Silverton Hotel & Casino, the bike was auctioned off for $70,000 to Hootie & the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker who secretly bid on the chopper as a present for bass player Dean Felber as a 40th birthday gift.
Hosted for the fifth year by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and Barefoot Resort, the Monday After the Masters is widely considered as one of the most popular celebrity pro-ams in the country and attracts thousands of people who enjoy the music of the two-time Grammy award winners as well as the friendly competition between the band and their celebrity and PGA professional friends. Over the past 12 years, the tournament has donated more than $3 million to the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and The Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational and junior golf needs of South Carolina.
“Despite the cooler temperatures, today’s sellout showed how popular the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters is in the Myrtle Beach area,” said Bill Golden, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday Vice President and Director of Marketing. “Golf fans look forward to the tournament every year and we look forward to extending the relationship with the band.”

LEOPARD’S CHASE GOLF CLUB TO OPEN FEBRUARY 15TH
Newest Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday Member is First Grand Strand Public Golf Course to Open in Six Years
The newest addition to the Ocean Ridge Plantation “Big Cat” Family, Leopard’s Chase Golf Club will open for play on February 15, 2007, just in time for the spring golf season. The third Tim Cate course in the 72-hole Ocean Ridge Plantation community, Leopard’s Chase is the first Grand Strand public golf course to open in six years, since Shaftesbury Glen Golf & Fish Club, Farmstead Golf Links, Grande Dunes Resort Course and Crown Park Golf Club debuted in 2001.
Located just minutes from North Myrtle Beach in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, Leopard’s Chase complements the area’s natural coastal beauty with subtle elevation changes, undulating fairways and greens, undisturbed wetlands areas and native vegetation. The par 72, 7,200-yard layout is spread out among 220 acres and features TifSport Bermudagrass fairways and bentgrass greens. One of the many distinguishing features of Leopard’s Chase is the significant number of holes which require short carries over both water and wetlands and the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout the 18 holes.
“Leopard’s Chase Golf Club is an exciting and highly-anticipated new addition to the family of Big-Cat courses,” stated Becky Noble, president of Ocean Ridge Golf. “It is another dazzling Tim Cate design which will contribute to the perfect golf experience here at Ocean Ridge Plantation.”
“We are fortunate to have a course the caliber of Leopard’s Chase added to our Grand Strand golf family,” said Bill Golden, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s vice president and director of marketing. “Golfers coming to the Myrtle Beach area have yet another world-class golf course to choose from.”
